Over 30,000 students applied to USC for our merit based scholarship consideration. The process is highly competitive, and only 1,200 pupils will likely be considered for the scholarships. Students often think they can not afford USC without a scholarship, but which could maybe not be true! I sat down with Danny Finlay, Assistant Director of Outreach for Financial Aid, to set the record right and get more details on how USC can be affordable.
Jessica: Students frequently confuse the difference between merit need and aid based aid. Would you simplify the huge difference?
Danny: Merit based help is cash awarded up to a student based for a compelling admission application that demonstrates significant achievements. Scholarships are the type that is only of based aid, and are perhaps not awarded by the Financial Aid Office. Need based help is given to students based entirely on their family members’ demonstrated economic need. Factors such as good grades or test scores don’t play into awarding students need based help.
J: What are the various types of Financial help?
D: There are many royal vegas online casino mobile various types of need based aid- Loans, Grants, and Work-Study. Loans are quantities of money which will have to be paid back to the authorities. A grant is an award that will not need to be paid back. Work-Study is just a form of educational funding that enables students to carry jobs that are part-time order to earn cash to aid finance their education.
J: How does the Financial help office determine how much aid a student will get?
D: The Financial Aid office will need students to submit two separate aid that is financial. The application that is first the FAFSA type, which can be located at FAFSA.ed.gov. The second application that students must submit is the College Scholarship Service Profile type (CSS Profile) at collegeboard.com. These types will collect information on the pupil’s and parents’ income, assets, and investments and so the aid that is financial can clearly see the financial situation of the student’s family. Once these forms are evaluated the pupil will likely then receive a figure that specifies their family members’s determined anticipated Family Contribution (EFC), or the total amount their loved ones is expected to contribute toward their educational charges for that particular academic 12 months. Even as we have a student’s determined economic need we can then fund them with need based aid (Grants, Loans, and Work-Study) to protect this need. Only at USC as long as the student applies on time, we shall fill this USC determined need that is financial% with need based aid.
J: When does a learning student typically receive their educational funding Summary?
D: As long as a student applies by the school funding deadline, they should receive a educational funding award summary within 1 or 2 weeks after receiving an admission decision.
April 1st, while right around the part, probably feels as though a million miles away for all waiting to listen to from colleges. We have it game that is…the waiting the worst! Here are a few ideas of ways to pass the time while we summary the process on our end.
Is there something you’ve constantly desired to do but just have actuallyn’t gotten around to actually doing in high college? Now’s your chance. Get to a basketball or volleyball game. Audition for the spring musical. Try that restaurant friends and family have now been referring to. Play in the battle of the bands. You are a senior and leader on campus. Yourself, people will only think you’re more fun if you make a fool of. So move out here and explore what’s going on at your school before you go down to university.
Absolutely nothing states procrastination like college sports. March Madness, especially, is amongst the best methods to occupy your time. There are baseball games almost daily, and when you are not watching, you can obsess over your bracket and those of your rivals. Get excited children, this is one of my favorite sporting events regarding the year!
If you’re indigenous to Los Angeles, or are actually into the community, go check always out Hogworts and the magical Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios. I personally can’t wait to visit Ollivander’s to find my wand, drink a butterbeer during the Three Broomsticks, and hang with Harry, Hermione, and Ron at Hogwarts. And if I’m really happy, I might encounter a Basilisk and find out my patronus against a dementor.
Nothing says fun quite like green party and jello caps. Go enjoy a shamrock shake and corned beef sandwich with mustard. Get in the spirit by having a fun green outfit to avoid the pinches of one’s friends. We can all enjoy being Irish for the afternoon! J
You’re about the head down to college and will be packing up likely most of your belongings to create with you. There is no right time like the present to begin going right through your closet to clean things out. Make a few extra dollars by listing your good stuff on Tradesy, and supply the rest of Goodwill. Your parents will thank you once you re-locate to take everything with you!
